GWF: Three Count – Die Wrestling-Serie: Ep. 2 Review

Originally Broadcast 23rd August, 2017

*PREVIOUSLY ON THREE COUNT*

A week after officially leaving the German Wrestling Federation, Pascal Spalter is back in the El Presidente’s office. Rambo is trying to appease the superstar – saying if he can just beat Silver all of this nonsense can be over with – after all, Silver is of no threat to Spalter. Spalter agrees but says it would be an embarrassment for him to face someone of Silver’s stature.

Rambo gives Spalter a bone and says that if he can agree to this match, he’ll let him choose any opponent he wants, without limitations. This seems to please the champion – it appears he’s going to stay after all.

We cut across town to Orlando Silver and his mum eating soup – she’s proper excited that Chris Colen is back in Berlin and she’s invited him over for Enchiladas in a few days. Silver slips his mum 20€ to pay for ingredients – which she refuses. Silver tells her to take it and not worry – because in a short while Silver won’t have to worry about cash when he’s champion.

Ahmed Chaer is sat in what appears to be a herb garden while Crazy Sexy Mike finishes a phone call. Chaer looks pensive and Mike asks him how he’s feeling. Chaer says he’s having some serious concerns about the current situation in GWF, particularly the fact he’s had to kick some people out of the company at the orders of Rambo. Mike tells him to calm down and offers to get some food (kebab with Lucky Kid and Tarkan?) for the two.

The next scene sees us in the car park of Huxley’s Neue Welt, where Dover is talking to Tarkan Aslan about his new merchandise out the back of his car. Lucky Kid walks over to the pair and asks to speak with Tarkan. Tarkan blows off Lucky and continues his conversation with Dover – which makes Lucky have another attempt. Dover takes this personally and tells Lucky to go away and squares up to him, which makes Tarkan hold Dover back. Tarkan tells Lucky that if the Lion King wishes to speak to him, he’ll let him know.

We’re back at the office and Vincenzo Coccotti and Rambo are sat at a desk – with Vincenzo franticly scrubbing his Tag Team Title belt. Rambo says that whilst they are both champions together, he knows more and Vincenzo known absolutely nothing about holding a title. Vincenzo corrects him, having held the Loserweight title for a while – to which Rambo says that it isn’t a real title anyway. This makes Vincenzo laugh, as he recalls that Rambo had also held this title recently. This angers Rambo, who asserts his authority and demands that he doesn’t mess this up. Vincenzo tells Rambo not to worry – as he is a specialist at keeping hold of titles.

Rambo is about to lose his shit as Martin Guerrero, the Loserweight champion enters the office. Guerrero says that he wants an opportunity to prove himself, as he is sick of being seen as a loser – to which Rambo tells him to deal with it and keep working. Guerrero leaves, dejected and Vincenzo also makes his excuses and vacates the office. Vincenzo catches up with Guerrero and says that he can help him jump from the Loserweight belt to real titles like the Tag Title he’s holding – and offers him the opportunity to join him at the GWF training school next week.

Back to Huxley’s again and Cash Money Erkan is talking to one of his stablemates about the bets he’s been taking on GWF matches, saying that he had a good week last week but is holding concerns about the bouts this week. Colen overhears the pair and confronts them, causing a standoff between him and Erkan. Colen states that it’s his business if there are people gambling on his matches and promises trouble for anyone caught doing so. Backstage Erkan shakes down a trainee wrestler for a twenty euro bet on Kris Jokic’s match this evening as we go into our first competition of the evening.

MATCH 1: Adam Kruger vs. Tarkan Aslan

The opener gives us our first introduction to “The Radiation Victim from Chernobyl” Adam Kruger, who came from GWF’s Tough Enough-esque series “Who’s Next?”. Kruger says his goals in GWF mainly involve him beating Tarkan Aslan and proving that people from Chernobyl are able to be champions. We’ll see about that. Aslan comes out and looks like an absolute star – he’s arrogant, he’s vicious – but you already knew that.

Aslan outwrestles the young Kruger from the get go, forcing him into the corner of the ring and launching repeated kicks into the head and body of Kruger as if he was nothing. Much like a lion toys with its prey before killing it, Aslan is slow to put the Chernobyl kid away – methodically taking him down before dropping him with a death valley driver to take the 1-2-3. Kruger had no chance.

We cut backstage and Kati is brought into Rambo’s office. Rambo gets straight to it and appoints her the new vice-president of GWF with immediate effect. Kati is shocked and begins saying how she will change GWF before being slowed down by Rambo who says that as vice-president her job is to sit aside him and shut up – and if there is a problem he will pretend to talk to her and she must nod. Kati reluctantly accepts this job. Without warning Tarkan Aslan bursts into the room, decrying that he had to face yet another jobber and that he wants a real challenge at the upcoming Battlefield show. Rambo angrily ejects Aslan from the room and says he’ll sort something. Rambo asks Weber who he can get and Weber hands him a sheet of paper – seemingly the ideal opponent.

Orlando Silver is seen sitting around by himself when Colen wanders into the room. Colen says he’s looking forward to Silver possibly winning the World title at Battlefield and that he will look to cash in his 4-Nations Cup Title opportunity – however he’ll pursue the Berlin championship instead so they can both be champions together – which causes Silver to set his sights on both of them becoming tag team champions together as well. History tells me to never trust it when two wrestlers get on as well as this as it never ends well.

MATCH 2: Kris Jokic vs. Senza Volto

It’s a rematch of the 1998 World Cup Semi Final as Croatia’s Kris Jokic takes on France’s Senza Volto. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing either of these two would know that this is going to be an absolute belter. Jokic in particular could legitimately have a shout at being one of the most underrated workers of his size in Europe and I seriously hope he can break out. Both of these men share a finisher, which will play into the match as it goes on – with each of them having their own variation of the shooting star press.

There’s a lot of mutual respect on show in the initial stages, with the pair near enough matching each other move for move – trading arm drags, moonsaults and dropkicks to no avail. Jokic extends his hand out once more but Volto tries to take advantage and drop Jokic. This just sets off another sequence of mainly the same stuff as before – this time Jokic manages to catch Volto with a hurricanrana which sends the Frenchman to the outside. Taking the initiative, Jokic hits Volto with a plancha from the ring to the floor, giving the two men a breather for the first time in this match. Volto gets up first and resets the count by briefly rolling into the ring – thus giving Jokic enough time to rise himself. Volto and Jokic both get up onto the apron and the Croatian immediate slams Senza with a rolling death valley driver onto the hardest part of the ring. Volto writhes in pain as he’s sent back into the ring and Jokic begins taking control. The Croatian drops Volto with a double-knee neckbreaker and pretty much has Volto down for the count – however he seemingly must win with a dive so he ascends the second rope and does a twisting moonsault, which he misses – inevitably Volto hits Jokic with a hurricanrana and attempts a dive of his own – the famous shooting star press – which is enough to put Jokic away. It’s great that they didn’t have Volto kick out of Jokic’s SSP because that would’ve completely devalued his own finisher – so that’s pretty smart.

Jokic is furious with himself in the post-match and takes a while to accept Senza Volto’s show of respect – but he eventually shakes his hand and gives him a quick embrace.

We jump backstage to the office – and Rambo is seen packing up when Silver pops his head in the door. Silver says that he knows that Rambo doesn’t believe he can do it – but he will be champion and a great champion at that. Rambo humours him and agrees before calling him an idiot as soon as he’s out of earshot.

Silver walks down the corridor and is struck in the face by a unseen club, which is followed up by a second person who lamps him with a punch to the ground. Silver looks up bleary eyed at the sharp dressed assailant – who we can’t quite make out – as he stomps on his head as we fade to black…
