EuroGraps Awards 2019: Tag Team of the Year

The annual EuroGraps.com Awards returns for a second year and looks to recognise the very best in European Wrestling. We put our survey out to a carefully selected panel of journalists and fans from all across Europe to select their top three in a number of categories. 2019’s panel was @MikeKilby, @GaryOnGraps, @Spoilex16, @theianhamilton, @ArnoldFurious, @SarahFlann, @IwanMack, @AnotherOli, and @ManuRomeroGraps. Points were awarded with a first choice receiving 5 points, a second choice receiving 3 points and a third choice receiving 1 point.

Tag Team of the Year:

1. Aussie Open – 31pts.

2. More Than Hype – 19pts.

3. Medusa Complex – 7pts.

4. Grizzled Young Vets – 6pts.

=5. The Legion & Woke Queens – 5pts.

7. Anti-Fun Police – 2pts.

=8. Only True Pros, Pretty Bastards, Moonlight Express, Club Rock Shandy, Chris Brookes + Kyle Fletcher & Young Guns – 1pt.

For the second year running Aussie Open take the top honours for best tag team in Europe by a long way and who could really argue? Davis and Fletcher added the Rev Pro and wXw tag team belts to their already gargantuan collection in 2019 and staked their claim as one of the very best tag teams in the world with an unsuccessful IWGP Tag Team Championship challenge against G.O.D. at Royal Quest in the summer. As well as their in-ring exploits, the pair also started the Schadenfreude & Friends promotion alongside Chris Brookes and Kid Lykos which has become the talk of the UK scene with their unique events. Sadly the team were sidelined in late September after Davis suffered an injury whilst working for PWG in California which prevented them from taking part in October’s wXw World Tag Team Festival as well as a much rumoured NJPW World Tag League entry in December. With Davis out for the foreseeable future, it’s now on Fletcher to make his mark as a singles competitor in 2020.

Following behind was Ireland’s own More Than Hype – who exploded in a big way in 2019 and finally made the jump over to the UK on a more regular basis. Although OTT seemed to neglect them for large swathes of the year – More Than Hype produced some excellent work in Fight Factory with their feud vs. Club Rock Shandy lasting most of the year. It’s been said several times on this site but More Than Hype have talent way beyond their years and it’s a matter of time before they blow up in a big way.
