OTT Contenders: Take Me To Your Leader – Show Report

1st February, 2020 – Ringside Club, Dublin, Ireland

It feels like an absolute age since I’ve been to an OTT Show. The 2019 Promotion of the Year (as voted by the EuroGraps.com panel!) started off their Dublin dates in 2020 with a sold out Ringside Club in one of the side rooms of the National Stadium. The show has a stacked line up including OTT Champ David Starr, Cara Noir, Mark Haskins and the returning Session Moth Martina.
No noteworthy beers for Untappd content lovers other than the wonderful 3 bottles for €10 promotion being ran by the lovely staff of the National Stadium. I settled for Heineken. I’m regretting it at the time of writing.

Classified Results:
Thiago Montero def. Captain Sexsea
Sammy D def. Justin Daniels
Paddy Morrow def. Calum Black
Scotty Davis def. B Cool & Omari
Only Tru Pros def. Young Guns & More Than Hype
Mark Haskins def. Session Moth Martina
Sean Guiness def. Cara Noir
OTT World Championship: David Starr def. LJ Cleary

This was a really strong show after a somewhat mixed bag of a card up in Belfast in January – OTT have started the wheels turning on the road to Scrappermania.

The big talking point coming out of this was LJ Cleary’s first major main event singles match for the promotion. I can go back to a match a younger LJ had against Jordan Devlin at Fight Factory in 2017 where he showed glimpses of the performer he now is. This match is as much a showcase for LJ as it was for Starr. We’re all guilty of forgetting how accomplished a singles wrestler he his and I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s a main event player again in the very near future. David Starr continues to show why he’s arguably one of the best wrestlers in the world. His OTT story continues to unfold one small bit at a time. This was a phenomenal main event that made the Ringside Club split their allegiances and it was capped by a typically fire Starr promo.

Scotty Davis and Omari continued their feud for the NLW title with both men becoming more aggressive to each other throughout their match. Omari has an intensity in OTT that he seldom shows anywhere else. B Cool wasn’t an afterthought either and showed he’s also a very capable wrestler as well as being comedic gold on the mic. From the outset It would seem though the promotion is building to Omari vs. Scotty Davis for Scrappermania but things will become clearer after the 15th February KFRC show.

Only Tru Pros remain undefeated in a great three way tag with the debuting Young Guns and More Than Hype. Liam Royal continues to be a highlight of any show he’s booked on. 2020 is going to be a big year for him. Young Guns made an awesome first impression and their chemistry with both teams was great. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Ethan Allen and Luke Jacobs in the future. A nice touch following OTP’s victory was Club Rock Shandy calling them out requesting a proper match “soon” and proving that any team can be caught off guard.

This show was a breeze from top to bottom with some new faces blooded in and a lot of development from the OTT Contenders roster. Definitely worth checking out on VOD.
